“We wanted to have a fabulous cocktail party/sumptuous feast/riotous blowout (briefly interrupted by a laughter-filled ceremony) in a totally unique space,” says firecracker bride Allison of today’s real wedding. Did she and new husband Robert get it? We certainly think so. Their Chicago wedding was held in a private residence that could essentially double as an art museum, and we love that they took to the city streets for their portraits. Allison and Robert met the way we all least expect to find our match, but still hunt for them anyways—late at night in a dimly lit bar. She introduced him to her best friend, but the pair didn’t immediately hit of off. So Robert returned to Allison and began chatting her up. As a fitting end, that same friend ended up officiating their wedding.
“There was never any thought of having assigned seating,” Allison says of the lively reception. “We had some four-top tables in one area, hi-tops positioned in different spots, sofas, and ottomans. The idea was for everyone to mingle as much as possible.” And, of course, eat as much of the delectable food as possible. How delicious does that cheese plate look?
Allison’s best piece of advice for brides is an absolute gem: “Remember that this is a party—have fun! Laugh and smile and enjoy having all the most important people in your life in the same room; it’s most likely the only time that will ever happen.” Thanks again to Cage & Aquarium for sharing their wedding with us!
